Meet Lazaro Borges a Cuban Olympic pole vaulter who broke his stick into three pieces when attempting to jump a height of 5.35 meters.  Borges was the 2011 World Championships silver medalist and failed to qualify for the final this year.  Not much would make me want to hop back on the pole after that happened anyway.  Check out the video of the accident below.
