The Thursday Night games have been pretty boring this year, with few reasons to watch other than fantasy and gambling implications. This week probably won't be much different when the Bucs travel to face the Vikings.
Every week I'm profiling one sparsely-owned player from Thursday's game that you can (notice I'm not saying should) pick up and start. Ya know, get your Thursday night fantasy fix if you don't have a stud player going.
So without further adieu, this week's player is...
Josh Freeman, QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Freeman was a great bye-week replacement in Week 7 if you were smart enough to pick him up and plug him in against the Saints, throwing for 420 yards and three scores. But with that performance Freeman may have elevated himself from fantasy backup to low-end fantasy starter.
Tampa Bay's offense has revolved around Freeman and his two terrific receivers, Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams. Also, RB Doug Martin has been playing great as of late, forcing opposing defenses to respect the run and not just sit-back, keying in on the passing game. The results have been noticeable, as he's thrown for over 1,000 yards and seven touchdowns the past three weeks.
If Freeman is still available in your league, pick him up immediately. He's a solid start this week and has plenty of opportunities the rest of the way, facing just two top ten pass defenses here on out.
Last year against Minnestoa, Freeman threw for 243 yards with one TD and one INT. Expect similar yardage numbers this week, but with an added touchdown. This pick-up is about more than Week 8, Freeman is the kind of pick-up that can carry your fantasy team the rest of the way.
